High Rising
As time passed I had intermittent anxious regarding my pregnancy. I was able to calm myself, but "am I going to lose this baby?" was always at the back of my mind. Every time I went to the rest room I checked to ensure I wasn't bleeding. Each week that went by was one week closer to ensure I wasn't going to lose my baby. All my ultrasounds were normal. I approached 16 weeks and in case you haven't realized reading this blog, I am anxious. So, we paid for a private ultrasound to hold a gender reveal, because I couldn't wait to find out what we were having.
April 20th, 2019 we held a gender reveal party, IT'S A GIRL!! We were having a baby girl. So thrilled, tear rolled down my face. My husband was so excited. Daddy's little girl was going to be arriving September 30th, 2019.
At 17 weeks I experienced some concerning symptoms. I was getting ready for work and experienced a large wave of heat throughout my body, lost my vision, got a severe headache, nausea, and weakness. I was advised to go to the Emergency Room.. so I did. My blood pressure was high, but everything else looked pretty good. My HCG levels were low.. gut wrenching feeling. An ultrasound was performed and the baby was good! The next day my blood pressure was high still and I couldn't get rid of this damn headache. So I called my doctor, got seen, was placed on blood pressure medication and deemed "high risk pregnancy." I had a condition called Chronic Hypertension which is high blood pressure that occurs in pregnancy before 20 weeks gestation. I had my 18 week anatomy scan. Baby girl looked good, the doctor wanted more pictures so he came in and performed them himself. He was concerned about her umbilical cord. She had a two vessel cord. She was lacking an artery. A normal umbilical cord has two arteries and one vein.

The perinatologist said the worst thing that could happen is when I go into labor she is unable to handle contractions and I’ll need a C-section. Alright, so I have a C-section. There goes my “birth plan out the door.” I was that pregnant woman that was determined to have 3 things happen: no epidural, dad cuts the cord and I breastfeed. Well, I knew there was a possibility of a C-section and quite frankly with how everything else had been going.. I was just planning on that happening.
Weeks passed and I was going to my monthly ultrasounds since I was high risk. My belly was growing and I could feel her moving around. Dad got to feel her kick. I was getting to the point where I was uncomfortable all the time. My feet were swollen. I gained back every pound I lost with morning sickness, and it was the middle of summer. Let me just say, pregnancy pillows and belly supports are the BEST!
The Fourth of July was approaching and I was excited to show off my belly. I was 28 weeks at the time, so my belly was in that super cute stage. July 3rd, 2019.. I felt decrease movement, but mind you I had anxiety during the whole pregnancy. So I managed to talk myself off the ledge. I knew I was going to get my ultrasound on the 5th so everything would be fine and I would be reassured it was just my anxiety rising.
